1.3 Timeline and Event Summary
Chronological: The section is referring to the times and dates in the order that they happened, from the time the planes left Boston to the time they hit the Twin Towers.
Spatial: This section describes specific directions of the flight path as well as which specific tower was hit and when.
Cause and Effect: The section refers to how the planes hit the Twin Towers and the resulting destructive aftermath. The cause was the high jacked planes crashing into the Twin Towers resulting in the collapse of a New York City block.

Class Activity 1: Group 2
1. The website is about family and child protective services. And the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services publishes the site.
2. The language used for the site is more formal, but with the links for the different chapters they advertise more information, making it easier and more efficient for the reader to navigate the site. The word choice is chosen for anyone with basic reading skills. The information is specific and clear.
3. The visual design for the site is simple and doesn’t distract from the information the site has to offer. The graphics are basic and not flashy.
4. The authors put the site up to inform the public of particular family and protective services. The site solves problems with having to keep calling for certain information and gives the reader additional information that can’t be easily answered over the phone. And cuts costs on hard copy paper.

The documents are written clearly and concisely to help the reader understand what is being expressed. Technical documents are designed to help the reader or user navigate easily so that they can get to the information that is important to them. Fall 2333 Tech Writing Portfolio Questions
1. What is an online portfolio?
According to the text, “an online portfolio can begin as an electronic version of a traditional hardcopy portfolio—using the World Wide Web or CD technology to display and distribute your work.”
2. What are the differences between online and paper portfolios?
Online portfolios are portfolios that are on the Web and may start out as the only portfolio or a compliment to a paper portfolio. A paper portfolio is a hardcopy portfolio. Also according the text, “the major difference between an online and a paperportfolio is one of usage: an online portfolio must act without support.”
3. Please list two advantages and disadvantages of online portfolio.
The text lists these as two advantages, “first, an online portfolio demonstrates the technical proficiency of its creator, and makes the statement that the creator is familiar with the current trends in communication. Second, an online portfolio has no bulk – whether it is Web-based or CD based, it does not have to be carried, stored and maintained like a paper portfolio.”
The text lists these as two disadvantages, “first, because online portfolios have a wider distribution than paper portfolios, files could be stolen or altered by anyone unless encryption technology is used.” No matter how it is encrypted on the Web nothing is completely safe so online work is never truly safe. According to the text, “a well-designed visual interface is either intuitive or instructive—the interface is designed so that users will either already know how to navigate it or it provides users with ways of learning and adapting to the new interface.”

Fall 2333 Tech Writing Initial Assignment
1. I am currently a double major at Cameron. I am an English and Foreign Languages major. I am planning on getting a master’s degree in either Teaching English as a Second Language or Linguistics. I choose these two fields because they allow me to apply both my majors to one field of study. Overall, I would like to teach English overseas at either a college level or at an adult Conversational School. These skills I will learn in this course will help me sell my skills to the job marking I am aiming for.
2. The skills I will learn in this Tech Writing course will allow me to write an effective resume and cover letter. I will also need to know how to write proposals and memorandums when dealing with a University and its staff. The skills I will learn in this course will help me communicate effectively with my audience.
· I will write on the job because it is necessary when dealing with University Staff members and Overseas Conversational Schools.
· I will be writing for future supervisors and potential bosses. I will also be writing for myself when updating my resume.
· I can expect European and Asian audiences to be viewing my writing and so the potential for loss of communication is great. I have to be very aware of my audience and their understanding of my point or purpose.
