Online portfolios are portfolios that are on the Web and may start out as the only portfolio or a compliment to a paper portfolio. A paper portfolio is a hardcopy portfolio. Also according the text, “the major difference between an online and a paperportfolio is one of usage: an online portfolio must act without support.”

The text lists these as two advantages, “first, an online portfolio demonstrates the technical proficiency of its creator, and makes the statement that the creator is familiar with the current trends in communication. Second, an online portfolio has no bulk – whether it is Web-based or CD based, it does not have to be carried, stored and maintained like a paper portfolio.”
The text lists these as two disadvantages, “first, because online portfolios have a wider distribution than paper portfolios, files could be stolen or altered by anyone unless encryption technology is used.” No matter how it is encrypted on the Web nothing is completely safe so online work is never truly safe. Second the text lists, “Second, assembling an online portfolio requires specific software and online design skills that not every professional possesses, e.g., a print designer wishing to create a portfolio of work may be unfamiliar with either
Web publishing techniques or presentation software.” Not everyone is familiar with all the presentation software or Web publishing techniques and learning new software can be tedious and frustrating.
4. In what ways can you use certain visual styles to help you do a good job in your online portfolio?
Potential supervisors or bosses will initially encounter the visual presentation of your work is through the design scheme of your CD cover or case or your Online portfolio. This is where the presenter can impress with visual aid but the presenter must remember that his/her portfolio needs to be self contained, meaning all links and attachments work well within the portfolio. According to the text, “a well-designed visual interface is either intuitive or instructive—the interface is designed so that users will either already know how to navigate it or it provides users with ways of learning and adapting to the new interface.”
5. In what ways can you use language styles to help you do a good job in your online portfolio?
The style and tense of the language used can make a portfolio clear and concise. It is an advantage to make sure that your portfolio is clear of errors and bad language. And according to the text the portfolio should be written in first person so that way each section is short and direct. The text also states, “simple mistakes in your portfolio’s pieces, such as spelling or grammatical errors, can destroy your credibility with evaluators."So as a portfolio presenter, he/she must remember to search carefully for and correct mistakes in ones pieces.
