How to a Wash Mini Schnauzer

Introduction

These instructions will show you how to wash a miniature Schnauzer with inexpensive materials. Follow these easy steps and you will end up with a clean mini Schnauzer or two.

Note: Each of these steps can be done with more than one dog in the bath tub. Wash one dog and then the other dog.

Materials

2 to 3 large bath towels
Tearless baby shampoo or Dog Shampoo for Sensitive skin
Cotton balls
Bath tub

Safety Information

CAUTION: Be sure to read instructions on shampoo before using. The shampoo may cause irritation to dog if not correctly chosen.

WARNING: Remember that water and shampoo make for a slippery bathtub be careful not to slip and fall. Remember to keep dogs calm to avoid injury to them as well.

Tips before Getting Started

- Remember to remove dog collars from dog’s neck
- Always check water temperature
- Remember that bath tubs can be slippery
- Always rinse dog’s coat thoroughly

Instructions

Step1: Remove collar(s).
Note: Removing the collar will help prevent a chocking hazard to the dog as well as keep the collar dry and odor free.

Step 2: Remove any items from the bathing area that can harm the dog, such as soap, wash clothes, etc.

Step 3: Place cotton balls in ears of the dog.
Note: Have more cotton balls on hand since dogs have a tendency to shake them out of their ears. Placing cotton balls in the dog’s ear will help prevent ear infections caused by water sitting in the ear canal.

CAUTION: Do not push cotton balls too deeply in the dog’s ear. This will prevent the cotton ball from getting stuck!

Step 4: Turn on water and check the water temperature. Always test water with your fingers or wrist. The water should never be hot but lukewarm.

Step 5: Place dog(s) in bathtub and rinse dog(s) from tail to neck, leaving the face dry.

Step 6: Apply shampoo to hand and work into foam and apply to the dog’s fur starting from tail up to shoulders.

Step 6a: Apply shampoo to hands and work into foam and apply to legs; then work shampoo into the pads of the dog’s paws.

Step 6b: Repeat step 6a on front legs and paws.

Step 7: Apply shampoo to hand and work into foam, and then apply to dog’s underbelly.

Step 8: Rinse shampoo from dog’s back, under-belly, and legs.

Step 9: Rinse the dog’s face with water.
Note: The dog will fidget and shake its head, but try to avoid getting water in the dog’s eyes and nose. Allow the dog to shake itself out.

Step 10: Apply shampoo to hands and work into foam then apply to dog’s face and muzzle.
Note: Do this step quickly but thoroughly since dog’s have a tendency to want to run away at this point.

Step 11: Rinse shampoo from dog’s face and muzzle. Remember to grab the scruff of the neck to hold dog steady.

Step 12: Remove and discard cotton balls; then dry dog’s ears.

Step 13: Dry dog with a bath towel.

Step 14: Remove dog(s) from bathtub and allow to air dry completely.

Step 15: Put collars back on dogs once they are completely dry.
