Class Activity 14 – Analyzing Topic Discussion
Topic 1
1. What will be your title for the instruction?
-- How to wash two Mini-Schnauzers
2. How will you introduce the set of instructions? What elements will you include in this part?
-- I would give a list of materials needed, a warning about ear care and a warning about possible accidents with shampoo and slipping in the tub.
3. What materials and tools does your reader need?
-- The reader will need shampoo (preferably tear-less and for sensitive skin), towels and cotton balls.
4. Are there any special terms your reader will need to learn and understand?
-- There will be mention of canine anatomy and the layman term will be given.
5. What safety information should you include in the instructions?
-- There should be mention about slipping hazards for both the person washing the dog and the dog. Shampoo in eyes and water in the ears are also safety concerns when washing a Schnauzer.
6. What kind of graphics would help your reader to carry out this task? What are the major steps in the task?
-- There are graphics (pictures of the dog being washed) and these pictures can show each step.
7. At what point in your instructions might a reader become confused or uncertain? How can you address that confusion or uncertainty?
-- The canine anatomy terminology can be confusing but can be easily explained in layman’s terms.
8. Can the task be carried out in the classroom? Why or why not?
--This task cannot be carried out in the class room because there is no bath tub and I don’t think my dogs will want to be bathed in public.
9. How would you conclude this set of instructions?
-- The instructions will be concluded with a freshly washed and towel dried dog.

3. What materials and tools does your reader need?
-- The reader will need a list of ingredients (such as meat, vegetables, seasonings, pots and other cooking utensils).
4. Are there any special terms your reader will need to learn and understand?
-- Other than the title there are not other special terms.
5. What safety information should you include in the instructions?
-- There will be mention of fire hazard, possible burning of self and of food, slips from boiling food.
6. What kind of graphics would help your reader to carry out this task? What are the major steps in the task?
-- There are graphics (pictures of the ingredients and of the cooking process) and these pictures can show each step.
7. At what point in your instructions might a reader become confused or uncertain? How can you address that confusion or uncertainty?
-- The reader might become confused at certain points in the cooking process like when to reduce and when to increase temperature and to remedy I would list when during the cooking process needs to be adjusted. The reader may become uncertain if they are lacking certain ingredients and to remedy this I would have to list other ingredients that can be substituted.
8. Can the task be carried out in the classroom? Why or why not?
-- This task cannot be carried out in the class room because there is no way to cook this in a tech class and it would take the length of the class time to prepare but a prepared version can be available for taste testing.
9. How would you conclude this set of instructions?
-- The instructions will be concluded with a pot of stewed beef for a meal.
