Class Activity - Evaluation Memo

Subject: Evaluation of paper airplane instructions.

The purpose of this memo is to evaluate the procedure of making a paper airplane. The goal is to clarify the instructions.

Summary
While performing a usability test for these instructions, we found that the strength was in the graphics that were provided, the weakness was in the written instruction. Although, neither would be clear alone, they function better together.

Discussion
During the usability test the main issue was with the written instructions. The information in each step was too wordy which lead to confusion for the reader. There was also too much unnecessary information provided. There should have been a note regarding the pattern on the graphics as being the opposite side of the paper. The instructions should be written in plain English, making the sentences short and to the point.

The graphics do aid in the instructions by attempting to show what the instructions are telling. However, if the instructions were only done in graphics it would be too difficult for the reader to understand what to do let alone perform the instructions.

The solution to the main problem with the written text would be to shorten the instruction information. Use plain English and shorten the sentences. There needs to be an indicator for the graphics telling which is the inside of the graphic and which is the outside.
